Rankin County to celebrate Family Reunification Day at Youth Court June 29 June 28, 2018 The Rankin County Youth Court will celebrate Family Reunification Day June 29 with a ceremony and activities starting at 11 a.m. at the Rankin County Juvenile Justice Center, 100 Court Cove in Pelahatchie. The Rankin County Board of Supervisors recently issued a proclamation declaring June 29 Family Reunification Day. Reunification of children with parents is the goal of Youth Court proceedings when children are removed from parents’ custody. Members of the media are welcome to attend, as this is an opportunity to see another side of the Youth Court system, said Court Administrator Paul Bowen. The Youth Court requests that media be respectful of the confidentiality of parents and children who have come under the jurisdiction of the Youth Court. Media are asked not to photograph or videotape participants in a manner that would publicly identify them. The June 18 proclamation of the Rankin County Board of Supervisors said, in part, “WHEREAS, a child removed from their home deserves that the child protection system works diligently and promptly with the parents to address the family service plan so that reunification with their family can be achieved safely and timely to promote their well-being and permanency; WHEREAS, all children need the care, love, security and stability of family unity, including parents, siblings, grandparents and other extended family members to provide a solid foundation for personal growth, development and maturity; WHEREAS, reunification takes work, commitment, and investment of time and resources by parents, family members, social workers, foster parents, service providers, attorneys, the Court and the community.” The Family Reunification Day celebration is made possible with the support of the Rankin County Chamber of Commerce, the Rankin County Sheriff s Department, the Rankin County Office of the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services, the Mississippi Youth Court Guardians for Justice Program, and numerous community and faith-based sponsors in conjunction with County Judge Thomas H. Broome and the staff of the Rankin County Youth Court. #### |
